Vizsla Quick Facts
The Vizsla is also called the Hungarian Pointer. At the end of World War I, the Vizsla was all but extinct. The importation of the breed into the United States began in the 1950s. The breed was admitted into the American Kennel Club in 1960.

About CVC
The Conestoga Vizsla Club was founded in the early 1960s (c. 1963), by a small group of Vizsla enthusiasts in Lancaster, PA. The Club's original focus was field trialing and the first CVC sponsored field trial was held in the late 1960s. The first licensed specialty hosted by the CVC was held in the early 70s.

Today, CVC has over 275 members residing throughout the mid-Atlantic region of the United States and beyond. We are committed to promoting the Vizsla as a dual dog, excelling in both the field and show ring. We also support Vizslas in many other areas, including obedience and agility, and maintain an active breed rescue program.

CVC Factoids

  • Conestoga was the Club's third choice for a name. The first two submissions were rejected by the AKC ("Tricorn Vizsla Club" and "Vizsla Club of Eastern Pennsylvania").
  • The name Conestoga comes from the Conestoga River district (the area the original members were from). Conestoga wagons draw their name from this area because this is where they were built.
  • CVC is one of the largest Vizsla Club in the United States.
